Waxing
-
Exfoliate the area a day or two before to remove dead skin cells and reduce the risk of ingrown hairs.
Avoid shaving in the days leading up to your appointment, as waxing works best on hair that is at least 1/4 inch long.
Avoid tanning or sun exposure 24-48 hours before waxing, as this can irritate the skin.
Clean the area before your appointment to ensure there’s no dirt or lotion on the skin.
-
Avoid sun exposure for 24-48 hours after waxing.
Don’t touch the area with dirty hands and avoid sweating excessively (like in saunas or hot tubs) for 24 hours.
You may experience some redness or bumps, which should subside within a few hours.
Gently exfoliate after a few days to prevent ingrown hairs.
Moisturize the area with a soothing lotion or oil.
-
Hard wax is applied and removed without strips and is great for sensitive areas like the bikini line or underarms.
Soft wax is applied with a spatula and removed with a cloth or paper strip, and is typically used for larger areas like legs or arms.
Sugar wax is a more natural option, using sugar, lemon juice, and water, and can be gentler on the skin.
-
Waxing is typically done every 3 to 6 weeks, depending on your hair growth cycle. The more frequently you wax, the finer your hair may grow back, and the less painful your sessions could be over time.
-
Shaving between waxing sessions is not recommended because it disrupts the hair growth cycle and can make your next waxing session less effective. Try to resist the urge to shave, even if the hair starts growing back.
-
Minor redness and bumps are normal and should subside within a few hours. However, if you experience more severe reactions, like rash, blistering, or swelling, contact your esthetician or healthcare provider. It’s always a good idea to do a patch test before your first waxing session to ensure no allergic reaction occurs.
Electrolysis
-
The process involves inserting a tiny probe into the hair follicle and applying a small electrical current to the root of the hair. This current either heats the follicle or causes a chemical reaction, disabling its ability to grow hair permanently.
-
Yes, electrolysis is FDA-approved for permanent hair removal and has been used safely for over 100 years. When performed by a licensed and experienced electrologist, it’s very safe. It’s important to follow pre- and post-treatment care instructions to minimize any risks.
-
Pain levels vary depending on the individual’s pain tolerance and the area being treated. Most clients describe the sensation as a mild stinging or tingling feeling. Some areas of the body (such as the bikini line or upper lip) may be more sensitive than others but numbing creams can be applied to make the treatment more comfortable.
-
Sessions typically last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated. Smaller areas like the upper lip or chin may take less time, while larger areas like the legs or back may take longer.
-
Electrolysis is a process that requires multiple sessions for optimal results, as hair grows in different cycles. Typically, it takes 6-12 sessions, but it depends on the treatment area, hair type, and your skin. The treatment plan will be personalized based on your needs.
-
Sessions are usually scheduled every 1 to 2 weeks initially, as hair grows in cycles. After the first few sessions, the frequency may be reduced to once every 4-6 weeks as you see fewer hairs regrowing.
-
Temporary redness, swelling, or slight irritation may occur in the treated area, but this usually subsides within a few hours to a couple of days. Rarely, some clients experience scabbing, discoloration, or skin sensitivity, but these side effects are generally mild and temporary.
-
Yes, electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method for permanent hair removal. Once a hair follicle has been successfully treated, it will no longer grow hair. However, it’s important to note that multiple sessions are required to treat hair in various growth stages.
-
Yes, electrolysis can treat all hair types, including fine, coarse, light, and dark hair. It’s also effective on all skin types, unlike other methods like laser hair removal, which can be less effective on light or fine hair.
-
People with certain medical conditions, such as uncontrolled diabetes, or those taking medications that affect healing or skin, may not be ideal candidates for electrolysis. Pregnant women should consult their healthcare provider before undergoing treatment. It's important to disclose your full medical history to your electrologist for a safe treatment plan.
-
Avoid waxing, plucking, or threading the treatment area for at least 2-3 weeks before your appointment, as these methods disrupt the hair follicle, making it harder to treat. It’s also best to avoid sun exposure or tanning beds right before the treatment to reduce the risk of irritation.
-
You may notice some immediate reduction in hair growth in the treated area after the first few sessions, but permanent hair removal requires multiple treatments. Full results can be seen after several weeks or months, depending on your treatment schedule.
-
After a session, it’s important to avoid touching the treated area, sun exposure, hot showers, and strenuous activity for 24-48 hours. You may be instructed to use soothing creams or aloe vera gel to calm any redness or irritation.
